If you are currently managing your own retail bookkeeping (or at least trying to), but feel like you have NO idea if you’re really doing it right…listen up. You may not need a bookkeeper to do it for you, you may just need a bookkeeping coach.

Shortly after starting my business as a virtual bookkeeper, I realized that there was a HUGE need out there for businesses who maybe didn’t have the budget to hire someone else to do their bookkeeping for them. These businesses still need their bookkeeping done, but they felt confused & anxious about doing it themselves, and didn’t really know where to begin!

Thus, a business idea was born, and I added the title of “Bookkeeping Coach” to my business! After all, if I wasn’t going to be an accountant, my next plan was to always be a teacher. Now, I get to be both!

What is a Bookkeeping Coach?

Think of a bookkeeping coach as a bookkeeping teacher for business owners who are managing (or at least trying to) their own bookkeeping for their retail businesses.

Bookkeeping is a learned skill, and is not necessarily something that just comes naturally the minute you decide to open your own business.

Some people may have the means and resources to just hire someone else to take that task off their plate from the start, but I know that’s not in everyone’s budget.

As a bookkeeping coach, I’m here to help bridge the gap and help business owners learn & understand their own bookkeeping, so they can feel confident as they manage it themself.

What Does a Bookkeeping Coach Do?

A bookkeeping coach helps you make sure that you have a solid bookkeeping system in place. In most cases, that means helping you set up a bookkeeping software such as Quickbooks Online (my personal favorite), and making sure you understand exactly how to use it to help you track every dollar that flows in and out of your business.

The retail industry has some unique complexities such as inventory & cost of goods sold, using multiple payment processors, and sales tax, so I make sure to cover all of these topics (and more!) to make sure my students have a solid understanding of how to properly account for them.

After initially offering this as a 1:1 service, I decided to record everything I was teaching, and turn it into a self-paced course format (for a WAY cheaper price for my students!).

I understand that every business is unique, so a course can’t possibly address every possible scenario that might come up in your business. That’s why I also include a private Facebook community and monthly live Q&A calls where my students can join and bring their specific bookkeeping questions, and I am happy to support them on a more individualized basis.

Can a Bookkeeping Coach Help You?

As a bookkeeping coach, it is my goal to help my students eliminate the anxiety and confusion that they currently feel when trying to work on their bookkeeping. I want them to have the confidence in knowing exactly what they need to be doing, and so that they can have a stress-free tax season each year (yes, that is possible!).

So, if you find yourself feeling stressed or anxious about your business finances, and find yourself dreading the upcoming tax season, then I want to encourage you to check out my free masterclass to help you decide if working with me inside the Bookkeeping Made Simple for Boutiques community would be a good fit for you!

With over 10 years of accounting experience, I've seen firsthand how retail boutique bookkeeping is more complex than other industries - you’ve got inventory, sales tax, and multiple payment processors. I've built my own bookkeeping systems I've used with my retail clients over the past 4 years, and I've broken it down and documented it all to help other small retailers implement it themselves.
